Up until a few decades ago, the idea of limiting Carbohydrates in your diet would have seemed strange. Carbohydrates were especially recommended for enhancing energy and gaining muscle. It was carbs that were identified as the catalyst for high performance if you were an athlete or just someone needing a boost. Lately, though, this theory has been completely overturned, and carbs are now widely considered the worst type of food you can eat. Sadly, lots of people are buying into the myth that all carbs are bad. There's nothing wrong with a low carb diet if you don't take it to extremes -eating a small amount of carbs from healthy sources is good for you. Once you learn the basics, you'll find that sticking to a low carb diet isn't painful at all. Check it out:

You can't go wrong when you focus on vegetables. Vegetables are among the foods with the least amount of carbs, whereas foods made from wheat or other gluten based foods are quite high in carbs. Remember this when you go to restaurants and order or choose items from a salad bar. Take a look at the vegetarian offerings, as well as the salads.

Not everyone realizes that vegetables contain carbohydrates, but in low quantities, and the healthy kind. There are many healthy and tasty low carb side dishes and snacks, such as broccoli, carrots and cauliflower.

Eggs are a fantastic source of vitamins, minerals and nutrients for people who are trying to avoid carbs - especially during breakfast time. When you think of breakfast, fatty foods are normally what come to mind. No matter when your mind starts thinking about what to have for breakfast, usually bacon is one of those things. When you want to be satisfied with your breakfast, eat eggs and drink a glass of juice, because they are filling and tasty. Keeping your carb count low will be undone by adding in things like cheese, and other high carbohydrates, and your hard work will be wasted.

Low carb diets are popular with some people because they love meat and look forward to being able to eat more of it. While it is true you have more room in your diet for calories obtained from meat, you do need to watch what kind of meat you eat. You can't just gorge on ground beef and steak and call it good. Look for healthy meats that are natural, such as grass fed beef or organic chicken or turkey. Boneless, skinless chicken breast, for example, is one of the healthiest meats you can eat. Be careful about what you shovel into your mouth. Consuming carbohydrates might be enjoyable, but there are lots of ways to cut them out. A low carb diet is pretty easy to start and stick with if the truth was known. Talk to a doctor or a qualified nutritionist when you first start on this road so that you can make sure you get a good and healthy start at a low carb lifestyle.
